For the ninth time in the past eleven years, Statesville-Mooresville has topped Site Selection magazine's Micropolitan ranking for new and expanding industry.
Among the nation's 576 micropolitan areas - defined as cities of 10,000 to 50,000 people which cover at least one county - Statesville-Mooresville finished first with 20 qualifying projects in 2012, one better than second-place Findlay, Ohio.
To qualify, a new or expanding industry project must meet one of three criteria; capital investment of at least $1 million, creation of 50 or more new jobs, or new construction of at least 20,000 square feet.
Site Selection magazine, published by Conway Data Inc. since 1954, delivers expansion planning information to 45,000 executives of fast-growing firms. Conway Data is an international publishing, association management and events company headquartered in Atlanta.
